Three dead in shooting in Netherlands city of Rotterdam, gunman arrested: Police

Twin shootings in Rotterdam on Thursday have resulted in at least three fatalities, including a 14-year-old girl and her mother, police said.

“The 14-year-old girl who was seriously injured in the shooting at the Heiman Dullaertplein has died. Her mother, a 39-year-old Rotterdam resident, also died in this shooting,” Dutch police said in a statement on social media.

A gunman opened fire in a flat in the Dutch city then burst into a nearby medical center. Fires broke out in both places but were later extinguished.

Elite police units had earlier burst into the hospital in the Dutch city searching for the suspect dressed in combat clothing, who was armed with a handgun, authorities said.

The first shots were fired at a nearby flat that also briefly caught fire. A second shooting incident occurred in a classroom at the medical center, police said.
