A confidential financial document obtained by Yemen Details confirms the depth of the Qatari-Iranian relationship through their proxy in Yemen, the Houthi group. This time, Al Jazeera was the party involved with this group, which has been classified as a terrorist organization by many countries and human rights organizations.
The document is a bank statement showing financial transfers made by the Qatari network from its account to the account of Raed Jabal, the representative of the General Authority for Civil Aviation in Sana'a.
According to the document, the transfers were made through the Al-Tadhamon Bank, which is owned by the heads of funds affiliated with the Islah Party (a branch of the Muslim Brotherhood in Yemen) between April 14, 2023, and September 14, 2023.
Activists questioned the identity of Jabal and the secret behind his relationship with the media side, as he works in a completely different field. It should be noted that he is a relative of Houthi leader Ahmed Hamed, the director of the Houthi Presidential Office.
However, others justified the secret relationship by claiming that he rents out equipment and broadcasting stations owned by the Authority to Al Jazeera for coverage of events and activities organized by the Houthis, promoting them as they should be from within Sanaa and the areas they have controlled since their coup against constitutional and legitimate authority in 2014.
These leaks come at the height of the promotion of the Houthis as defenders of the Palestinians in Gaza, a promotion that has spared no effort from Al Jazeera and Qatari channels on one hand, and Yemeni Brotherhood channels, led by the Qatari-funded Al-Mahariya channel, on the other hand. Houthi leaders at various levels compete to appear on these channels, and the promotion is still ongoing. In addition to this, there is another entity that financially supports non-governmental Houthi media outlets such as Al-Masirah, Al-Lahza, Al-Hawiyah, and A'dan from various production institutions. This entity is the Union of Islamic Radios and Televisions, headquartered in Tehran and fully funded by Qatar.
