A Liberian-flagged vessel was targeted off Yemen, maritime security firm Ambrey said Monday, adding that the vessel had been listed as “Israeli-affiliated.”
“The vessel was listed as operated by the Israeli company ZIM Integrated Shipping Services,” Ambrey said but added that “this may have been an out-of-date affiliation.”
“It remained unconfirmed whether the vessel was directly impacted or sustained damage due to nearby explosions,” the firm said.
Earlier, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency (UKMTO) said that it had received a report of an incident 91 nautical miles southeast of the Yemeni city of Aden.
Iran-backed Houthi militants in Yemen have launched attacks on shipping in the Red Sea region since November in solidarity with Palestinians in the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza.
The Rubymar cargo ship sank on Friday, becoming the first vessel lost since the Houthis began they attacks.
