Israeli military says it intercepted missile launched from Yemen

The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said that a missile was launched from Yemen toward Israeli territory, triggering sirens in several areas. Air defence systems were activated in response and are working to intercept the projectile, the military said in a statement.

The IDF urged the public to remain alert and follow any instructions issued by the Home Front Command.

Israel has warned Yemen’s Houthi rebels of a possible naval and air blockade if the Iran-backed group continues its attacks in support of Gaza.

Since the Gaza war began in October 2023, the Houthis have launched repeated missile and drone strikes targeting Israel and commercial vessels in the Red Sea, causing major disruptions to global shipping routes.

While most of the projectiles have been intercepted or failed to reach their targets, Israel has responded with a series of retaliatory strikes.
