British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper is scheduled to undertake visits to China and India this week, focusing on critical global issues including the Strait of Hormuz, the conflict in Ukraine, and the recent Ebola outbreak.

Cooper is slated to meet with her Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, and Chinese Vice President Han Zheng on June 2. Subsequently, she will travel to Shenzhen on June 3 for engagements centered on science and technology, according to government statements.

These planned visits follow an earlier report by Reuters last month, which cited three sources regarding the itinerary. The engagement with China occurs in the context of a perceived reset in bilateral relations, following Prime Minister Keir Starmer's visit in January, where both leaders committed to enhanced cooperation in trade, investment, and technology.

The Foreign Secretary's trip to China, the world's second-largest economy, and India, the sixth-largest, takes place amid significant geopolitical tensions, elevated oil prices, and challenges related to sluggish economic growth in the UK.

In India, Cooper is expected to meet with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on June 4, along with entrepreneurs, academics, and government partners involved in the UK-India Vision 2035 initiative. This follows the signing of a free trade agreement last year, although its implementation has reportedly encountered obstacles related to UK steel import restrictions.

The British government has indicated that Cooper's engagements with both nations are intended to address the most pressing global challenges.
