Hezbollah Accepts U.S.-Brokered Ceasefire Proposal with Israel

Lebanon's embassy in Washington announced that Hezbollah has accepted a United States proposal for a mutual cessation of hostilities, which would extend to all Lebanese territory.

The statement, disseminated by the Lebanese presidency via the social media platform X, outlined that the agreement would initially involve Israel refraining from strikes on Beirut's southern suburbs. This concession would be reciprocated by the Iran-backed Hezbollah group halting its attacks against Israel, following threats from Israel to target the capital's suburbs on Monday.

Hezbollah lawmaker Hassan Fadlallah communicated to the group's Al-Manar television network that Hezbollah would endorse a comprehensive ceasefire across the entirety of Lebanon. This would serve as a prerequisite for the withdrawal of Israeli forces. Fadlallah indicated that the group would monitor the situation in the coming days to ascertain if the cessation of hostilities takes hold.
