Yemeni Minister of Information, Muammar Al-Eryani, stated that Lebanon's current situation reflects the consequences of Iranian-backed groups dominating national decision-making, asserting that these groups operate on external agendas detrimental to their nations.
Al-Eryani highlighted that the recent conflict in Lebanon demonstrated that Hezbollah's engagement was not in Lebanon's interest but a result of its political, military, and ideological ties to Iran. This led to a devastating war causing thousands of casualties, widespread displacement, and significant damage to infrastructure.
He further noted that the Lebanese people bore the heavy cost of this war, with their country used as a stage for Iran's regional agenda and conflicts, serving as a model for Tehran's actions through its affiliated militias across the region.
The Minister explained that Iran establishes and supports armed groups operating outside state institutions, monopolizing decisions on war and peace contrary to national will, which weakens states, depletes their resources, and plunges them into crises and conflicts.
Regarding Yemen, Al-Eryani affirmed that the Houthi militia followed the same pattern, hijacking the state, confiscating national decisions, and engaging Yemenis in destructive wars serving the Iranian project. He detailed that the Houthis brought only ruin, economic collapse, and a worsening humanitarian crisis to Yemen, using the country's resources for external agendas unrelated to the interests of the Yemeni people.
Al-Eryani stressed that restoring state institutions, ending Houthi control, and cutting off their funding and support are essential steps to protect Yemen from further depletion and to regain security and stability, citing the Lebanese experience as a clear lesson on the cost of aligning with Iran and its regional proxies.
