Lovren Slams Carragher Over Salah Criticism: "Disgusting"

Former Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has launched a scathing attack on football pundits, particularly Jamie Carragher, labeling their recent criticism of Mohamed Salah as "disgusting" and questioning their motives.

Salah has recently faced increased scrutiny regarding his performances and future, prompting Lovren to fiercely defend his former teammate. Lovren suggested that some pundits target Salah simply to generate attention and enhance their own profiles, questioning why such harsh critiques weren't leveled over his previous eight or nine years at the club.

"It’s disgusting," Lovren stated, adding that some pundits engage in this behavior perhaps because they need to "perform well" in their media roles. He specifically called out Sky Sports pundit and Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher, accusing him of lacking the courage to voice his opinions directly to Salah, a tactic Lovren claims Carragher also employed against him during his own tenure at Liverpool.

Lovren highlighted the strong friendship he shares with Salah, forged during their successful years together at Liverpool under former manager Jürgen Klopp. Having witnessed Salah's impact firsthand, Lovren believes his former teammate's achievements warrant more respect than some recent commentary has provided.

Regardless of recent opinions, Salah's legacy at Liverpool is already secured, having been instrumental in multiple major honors and consistently delivering elite-level performances. The article also notes Salah's eventual departure from Anfield at the end of the 2025/26 season, following a fallout with then-manager Arne Slot, and speculates whether Salah might have stayed had the club acted sooner in replacing Slot.
