The transfer rumour gains traction due to the existing relationship between Delap and McKenna. The 23-year-old striker thrived under McKenna at Ipswich Town, netting 12 goals in 37 Premier League appearances, despite the team's relegation. This familiarity with McKenna's tactics could be a significant factor for Fulham.
Fulham's need for a new centre-forward is pressing. With Raul Jimenez departing as a free agent and Jonah Kusi-Asare returning to Bayern Munich after his loan spell, Rodrigo Muniz is currently the primary senior striker. This opens the door for Delap to secure substantial playing time, rather than just being a squad player.
For Chelsea, the situation is less straightforward. Delap joined from Ipswich in 2025 for approximately £30 million, but his debut season at Stamford Bridge hasn't met expectations. Reports indicate he made 12 Premier League starts and 16 substitute appearances, contributing just one goal and no assists in the league, along with one goal in five Champions League games.
Despite a difficult start, Delap remains a young, physical, and aggressive striker capable of leading the line.
