Lenovo's IdeaPad Slim 5x is hitting the sweet spot for budget-friendly laptops, packing a surprisingly capable 15.3-inch screen and a user-friendly design that avoids common compromises.

The laptop features a standard keyboard layout and a centered touchpad, offering ample wrist rest space without making the device feel excessively large. Its dimensions are comparable to the 15-inch MacBook Air, making it a solid option for travel and everyday portability.

Surprisingly, the IdeaPad Slim 5x excels in areas where many budget laptops falter. The touchpad offers superior tracking compared to many competitors in its price range, outperforming models from HP and Asus, and rivaling last year's Dell 14 Plus. The only minor drawback is the loud click sound, which might be a consideration for shared workspaces.

Audio performance is also a pleasant surprise. While not groundbreaking, the speakers are impressive for a laptop in this price bracket, providing serviceable sound that surpasses typical budget offerings. The webcam, however, is merely adequate and performs best in well-lit conditions.

Under the hood, the Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 Plus processor offers solid performance for everyday tasks, even if it doesn't compete with Apple's M5 chip. For typical users juggling work apps, numerous browser tabs, and streaming media, the X2 Plus handles the load without issue. This performance is achieved partly by using a slightly less powerful chip than the X2 Elite, helping to keep costs down.

The display itself is another highlight, boasting brighter colors and better contrast than many rivals. The addition of a touchscreen is a handy bonus, and the subtle anti-glare coating provides a clear, premium viewing experience without excessive reflections.
