Man Utd Ready to Sell Ugarte at a Loss Amid Midfield Shake-up

Manchester United is reportedly willing to accept a financial loss on midfielder Manuel Ugarte, as manager Michael Carrick looks to overhaul the squad this summer. The club is open to selling the Uruguayan international, even if it means recouping less than the initial transfer fee.

Ugarte joined Manchester United from Paris Saint-Germain in 2024 for an initial fee of £42.3 million, with potential add-ons pushing the total package over £50 million. Despite arriving with a reputation as a strong ball-winner, Ugarte has struggled to make a significant impact at Old Trafford, starting only 10 matches last season, indicating a diminished role.

The main obstacle to Ugarte's departure may not solely be the transfer fee, but also his substantial wages. Reports suggest that United sources believe his £120,000-a-week salary could make finding a new club challenging. While the club is not actively advertising him to avoid weakening their negotiating position, they are not desperate to offload him at any cost.

This potential sale aligns with Carrick's broader vision for the team's midfield. Following the departure of Casemiro, Manchester United is reportedly looking to clear out several players this summer. The club has been linked with midfielders like Mateus Fernandes and Felix Nmecha, suggesting Carrick desires a midfield unit with greater technical ability, energy, and tactical adaptability.

While Ugarte is acknowledged as a competent player, he may not fit the specific profile Carrick is aiming to build. Manchester United is open to offers, but a deal hinges on finding a suitor willing to meet both a transfer fee and his considerable wage demands.
