Atletico Madrid Reports Barcelona to FIFA Over Julian Alvarez Transfer Tampering

Atletico Madrid is officially taking action, announcing plans to file a complaint with FIFA against Barcelona for allegedly tampering with their transfer approach for Julian Alvarez.

Barcelona stands accused of engaging in talks with Alvarez while he is under contract with Atletico, specifically during what the Spanish giants deem a "protected period."

The Argentina international has been a standout performer in La Liga, making him a hot commodity and a logical target for Barcelona. However, Atletico CEO Gil Marin, as quoted by journalist Fabrizio Romano, stated, "Our responsibility is to defend the interests of Atlético and that is why we are going to file a complaint with FIFA against Barcelona for negotiating with a player under an active contract during the protected period."

The implications for Alvarez's future remain unclear, especially with reports from journalist Isaan Khan highlighting Arsenal's interest in the former Manchester City forward. Khan's post on X indicated that Arsenal staff thoroughly assessed Alvarez, concluding he would be an ideal fit for Mikel Arteta's squad after reviewing his injury record, physiological data, and on-field performance.

While Atletico appears determined to hold onto their star player, particularly from rivals Barcelona, the situation could potentially open the door for Arsenal. If a deal between Barcelona and Atletico becomes unlikely due to the existing animosity, the Gunners might re-enter the race for Alvarez. Despite signing Viktor Gyokeres last summer, Arsenal could see Alvarez as a more versatile, world-class striker capable of elevating the team towards Champions League success, though his personal preference for Barcelona might complicate matters.
