Universal CityWalk has introduced new security protocols, including metal detectors and bag screenings, for all visitors, regardless of whether they plan to enter the theme park. These measures are now standard for accessing the popular entertainment and dining promenade.
Individuals visiting CityWalk, which offers a variety of nightlife, dining, and entertainment options, are now required to pass through security checkpoints, mirroring the protocols for Universal Studios Hollywood theme park entry. While a ticket is not necessary for CityWalk access, patrons must undergo the same security procedures, including waiting in line for metal detector screening and bag inspection.
The enhanced security has been met with a generally positive reception from visitors. Ernesto Lopez, visiting from Stockton, expressed that while the measures were a surprise, they made him feel safer. His relatives concurred, with Lopez noting the bag check process as a good safety measure and the visible security presence as an added layer of protection.
A Universal Studios spokesperson clarified that the "security bubble" policy, which has been in development for months, was not prompted by upcoming events such as the World Cup or the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. This approach aligns CityWalk's security with that of other Universal Studios destinations nationwide and other major entertainment venues in Los Angeles.
The new policy is comparable to security measures at Disneyland, where visitors must pass through screenings to reach Main Street, U.S.A., before entering the theme park and Disney California Adventure. During a recent visit, lines at the CityWalk security checkpoints were observed to be moving efficiently, with visitors like Jackie Segura describing the process as "fast and easy."
