Man Utd's Midfield Overhaul: Two Signings Still on the Table

Manchester United is still aiming to bring in at least one more midfielder, despite missing out on a key target and facing financial hurdles with another. The club's strategy to revamp its midfield remains a top priority, even after losing out on Matheus Fernandes to Tottenham.

Reputable journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that while the pursuit of Fernandes didn't pan out, United's broader plan to strengthen the squad is very much alive. The initial plan was to sign two midfielders, and with the anticipated arrival of Ederson from Atalanta, they are still determined to secure a second significant signing.

Romano also shed light on the Aurelién Tchouaméni rumors. While the Real Madrid star is reportedly a "dream signing" for United, the current financial package, including the transfer fee and the player's wage demands, is considered too steep. For a deal to happen, Tchouaméni would need to accept a significantly different salary structure, which isn't currently being discussed.

With Fernandes heading to Tottenham and Tchouaméni likely out of reach for now, Manchester United is back to scouting for midfield talent. The club is reportedly keeping a close eye on promising players like Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton, Lille's Ayyoub Bouaddi, and Bournemouth's Alex Scott. The focus is on finding the right profile to enhance the team's transitional play and inject fresh energy into the midfield, rather than overpaying in the current market.
