Child Rescued Alive Six Days After Venezuelan Earthquakes

A child has been rescued alive from a collapsed building in Venezuela six days after devastating twin earthquakes struck the nation, marking the only reported survivor in ongoing rescue operations.

Klieber Moran was pulled from the Los Corales Garden 1 building in La Guaira state by Jordanian emergency rescue teams. Venezuela's acting President Delcy Rodriguez announced the rescue via Telegram, stating the child had been trapped under the rubble for six days.

The country was hit by two powerful earthquakes, magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5, less than a minute apart last Wednesday. These seismic events caused widespread building collapses, trapping thousands of individuals beneath debris, according to authorities and rescue organizations.

Moran, reported as either 2 or 3 years old by different officials, was transported for immediate medical attention. Jorge Rodriguez, President of the National Assembly, emphasized the importance of maintaining hope, stating in a televised address, "Early this morning, a 2-year-old boy was rescued and is currently receiving care at a health center in Caracas."

In parallel, a shipment of 47 metric tons of humanitarian supplies from UNICEF arrived in Venezuela on Tuesday, according to UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric. The supplies are intended to assist children and families affected by the disaster, and include emergency health kits for critical medical care, safe births, newborn support, and disease prevention and treatment.
