Security Forces Fire Kills Civilian in Al-Turbah; Unrest Threatens Citizens

A security officer's gunfire in Al-Turbah, Taiz Governorate, resulted in the death of one civilian and injuries to three others, sparking public outrage and renewed concerns over escalating security incidents involving personnel affiliated with security agencies in areas controlled by forces loyal to the Islah Party.

Local sources reported that civilian Adel Al-A'war was killed on Tuesday after being shot by a security officer identified as Al-Zeer Al-Dhabhani. Three other civilians sustained varying injuries and were transported for medical treatment. Sources indicate the perpetrator is wanted by security forces and is associated with the Director of Al-Turbah Security, Abdullah Al-Wahbani.

Following the incident, the Taiz Governorate Police announced the immediate apprehension of the suspect. In a statement, the police confirmed that legal procedures and necessary investigations are underway to determine the circumstances and motives behind the incident before referring the case to the competent judicial authorities.

Despite the swift announcement of the suspect's arrest, human rights activists in Taiz argue that the incident raises deeper questions regarding the selection and qualification processes for security personnel and adherence to professional standards within certain security units, especially given the recurrence of similar events in recent years.

Observers point out that this incident is not isolated. In October of last year, lawyer Abdulrahman Abdulhakim Al-Najashi was killed in Al-Turbah by a member of the Al-Shamaytitin police station in front of the old courthouse. That incident also provoked widespread anger and calls for accountability and prevention of similar crimes.

Activists believe the repeated gunfire incidents involving individuals with security affiliations reflect institutional discipline and oversight deficiencies within some elements. They warn that the continuation of such incidents without fundamental solutions could erode public trust in the agencies tasked with maintaining security and upholding the law.

This incident occurs amid escalating public and human rights calls to reinforce accountability, ensure the law is applied equally to all, and guarantee that no individual involved in violations or crimes escapes punishment, regardless of their status or affiliation.
