Chelsea Eyes French Star and Spanish Prospect for Defensive Reinforcement

Chelsea is zeroing in on defensive upgrades this summer, with Crystal Palace's Maxence Lacroix and Como's Jacobo Ramon reportedly on their radar. After a season plagued by defensive instability, the Blues are keen to bring in a center-back who can either make an immediate impact or grow into a key player for the future.

According to The Athletic, Lacroix, who joined Crystal Palace from Wolfsburg, is a top target. His profile fits Chelsea's need for defenders comfortable defending space, quick enough for a high line, and robust enough to handle Premier League forwards. He brings valuable Premier League experience, making him a potentially ready-made solution.

TalkSPORT suggests Chelsea might explore swap deals involving players like Trevoh Chalobah, Tosin Adarabioyo, Axel Disasi, or Benoit Badiashile to facilitate a move for the French defender, as Crystal Palace is unlikely to sell cheaply. The Sun has also indicated Chelsea's willingness to include players in negotiations, though formal talks hadn't commenced.

Jacobo Ramon offers a different proposition. Yahoo Sports reports Chelsea's interest in the younger Spanish center-back, who has a unique profile despite being less proven in English football. Ramon is partly owned by Real Madrid following his move from Spain.

While Ramon represents a long-term project, Chelsea might be better served by prioritizing the Premier League-ready Lacroix for an immediate defensive boost. However, the club must ensure any deal is financially sensible, potentially leveraging swap deals if Palace's valuation is too high. A stronger, quicker defense could prove more impactful than another attacking signing.
