The Ministry of Industry and Trade subject to the Houthi militia raised the price of flour after an unannounced agreement with the Yemen Company for Flour Mills and Silos, which belongs to Hayel Saeed Anam (HSA) Group of companies.
Sources in the Houthi-controlled Ministry of Industry and Trade said that the militia decided to raise the price of the flour (50 kilograms), from YR17,000, to 18,000 in two stages after an unannounced agreement made during the past two days with the (HSA's) Company.
The agreement guaranteed that the Ministry of Industry and Trade, subject to the Houthi militia, would obtain a financial percentage from every bag of flour sold to the market. the sources said.
As part of the repercussions of this decision, bakery stores were closed, in the city of Taiz on Tuesday, which led to a suffocating crisis in the bread and loaf.
Local residents in Taiz said that the city witnessed a severe crisis of bread and loaf, as a result of the majority of bakeries owners closing their stores, due to the high prices of flour.
Hundreds of citizens were seen in the city since early morning, looking for bread and loaf, without being able to get them.
The residents demanded the local authority in the governorate to intervene quickly, put an end to this crisis.
