A Metrolink train en route from Oceanside to San Bernardino experienced a mechanical failure in Anaheim Hills on Saturday afternoon, leaving approximately 500 passengers stranded for nearly two hours.
Metrolink spokeswoman Sabrina Davis reported that the train, identified as the 1858, stopped due to mechanical issues at approximately 4:30 p.m. The breakdown occurred between the Anaheim Canyon and Corona stations, in an area where passenger disembarkation was not deemed safe. Davis noted that the weekend service is typically well-attended by individuals traveling to and from coastal destinations.
An alternate train arrived approximately two hours after the initial breakdown to transport the stranded passengers. Some individuals opted to leave the train prior to the arrival of the replacement service.
According to ABC7, citing fire officials, several passengers required medical attention for symptoms of heat exhaustion and respiratory distress.
The replacement train concluded its service in downtown Riverside. Metrolink subsequently arranged for bus and ride-sharing services to ensure passengers could reach their final destinations.
