Samsung is dropping a trio of new foldable phones: the flagship Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, the intriguing new Galaxy Z Fold8 with a wider form factor, and the compact Galaxy Z Flip8. These devices, along with the new Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Watch9 smartwatches, mark Samsung's eighth generation of foldables.
All three new Galaxy Z phones boast Samsung's Dynamic AMOLED 2X display tech, offering a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR support, and an impressive peak brightness of 3,000 nits, making screens visible even in bright sunlight. They also feature blue light filtering to reduce eye strain. The Fold8 Ultra and Fold8 sport a Flex Titanium layer designed to minimize the screen crease, enhance durability, and provide a smoother, anti-reflective finish. Under the hood, all models are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, paired with 12 GB of RAM (or 16 GB for the Fold8 Ultra and Fold8), and come with 256 GB or 512 GB of storage (up to 1 TB for the higher-end models). The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is Samsung's top-tier foldable, featuring a 6.5-inch cover display and an expansive 8-inch inner screen. It's equipped with a premium camera system: a 200MP main sensor, a 50MP ultrawide, and a 10MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. With a larger 5,000 mAh battery, it supports faster wired (45W) and wireless (20W) charging compared to its predecessor. The new Galaxy Z Fold8 introduces a unique, wider form factor that sits between the Ultra and the Flip. It’s shorter but wider than the Fold8 Ultra, offering a 7.6-inch main display that’s well-suited for media consumption in landscape mode. Despite its slightly shorter stature, the Fold8 is the lightest large-screen foldable available at 201 grams. While its camera setup is more modest, featuring 50MP wide and ultrawide lenses (no telephoto, but 10x digital zoom), it retains the same powerful processor and display tech. The Fold8 features a 4,800 mAh battery and is positioned for those seeking a distinct and adventurous foldable experience.
The Galaxy Z Flip8 redefines the flip phone category with a redesigned, lighter, and thinner chassis. It boasts a 4.1-inch cover screen that opens up to a 6.9-inch main display. This model packs the same high-end chipset as its larger siblings, a 4,300 mAh battery, and a capable dual-camera system with a 50MP main shooter and a 12MP ultrawide, supporting 4K video recording. The Flip8 is ideal for users who prioritize portability and a fun, compact design without sacrificing performance.
Samsung is also launching the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Watch9. The Ultra2 features an improved Snapdragon Wear Elite chipset, a brighter 5,000-nit display, and enhanced durability features for sports and diving. The Watch9 also gets the new chipset, a 3,000-nit display, and a 20% larger battery, offering advanced health and fitness tracking.
