President Donald Trump stated on Tuesday that discussions with Iran have been "good," while simultaneously reaffirming his previous threats to target specific Iranian sites, including a facility referred to as Pickaxe Mountain, as well as bridges and power plants, should a diplomatic agreement not be reached.
In an interview with Fox News, Trump expressed a preference for avoiding strikes on Iran's critical infrastructure like bridges and power plants. He described the situation as a "very, very delicate balance" and asserted that Iran is aware of his commitment to taking action if a deal is not forthcoming, emphasizing that "we cannot have them break deals anymore."
Trump's remarks about having "very good talks" with Iran come ahead of a planned meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House. The U.S. and Israel reportedly launched strikes against Iran in February.
When questioned about reports suggesting Netanyahu intended to discuss ongoing work at a site linked to Iran's nuclear program, identified as Pickaxe Mountain—a fortified underground facility near a primary Tehran nuclear site—Trump indicated he was already fully aware of the situation. He referred to Netanyahu's intent to discuss it as an effort to ensure his continued involvement. Trump stated, "I know exactly what's going on at Pickaxe. It's not a big problem. We took out their nuclear sites, and we'll have to take out Pickaxe if we don't make a deal. We don't make a deal, we'll take it out very easily."
