Tottenham Hotspur is reportedly close to another major summer exit, having accepted a proposal from Juventus for goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.
The 29-year-old Italian's future in North London became uncertain after he lost his starting spot to Antonin Kinsky late last season. Manager Roberto De Zerbi continued to favor the Czech keeper during pre-season, while Vicario has openly expressed his desire for a return to Italy. Juventus, who had been pursuing Aston Villa's Emiliano Martinez, have now shifted their focus to Vicario.
According to reports, Tottenham has accepted an offer from Juventus for Vicario. The deal is structured as an initial loan with an option for the Serie A club to make the transfer permanent next summer. All parties anticipate the move will be finalized, with Vicario eager to play in Serie A again. Juventus turned their attention to the Spurs goalkeeper after negotiations for Martinez broke down, reportedly due to concerns over an injury and financial demands.
The potential departure of Vicario aligns with the club's interests, especially since De Zerbi has settled on Kinsky as his primary goalkeeper. Retaining an experienced international as a backup, particularly one seeking regular playing time for future international call-ups, may not be ideal. While a guaranteed permanent sale would have offered more immediate financial clarity for Spurs, the loan with a purchase option at least opens the door for his wages to be removed from the books next summer.
Adding to their goalkeeping options, Tottenham has also brought in experienced keeper Martin Dubravka to provide cover for Kinsky, suggesting Vicario's exit should not leave the squad short. For Juventus, Vicario represents a sensible alternative after their pursuit of Martinez faltered. He is familiar with Serie A, is in his prime, and is expected to be motivated to recapture the form that made him a standout Premier League goalkeeper.
