Iran has announced that two French embassy employees implicated in a diplomatic dispute last month will be prohibited from returning to the country.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei stated that the individuals allegedly violated the Vienna Convention by engaging in activities deemed supportive of Iranian civil society. He asserted that the claim of involvement in such activities constitutes an admission of violating diplomatic protocols, though he did not provide further specifics during a weekly press conference.
Tehran maintains a strong stance against perceived Western interference in its domestic affairs. This sensitivity has been particularly heightened following recent events involving the United States and Israel.
Earlier, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot had described the employees' mission as facilitating programs for Iranian civil society, students, and artists, noting France's significant contributions in this area and the associated consequences. France had previously summoned Iran's charge d'affaires in July after accusing Iranian security forces of detaining and intimidating its embassy staff in Tehran.
