Israel Strikes Southern Syria; Damascus Condemns Drone Attack

Syria's Foreign Ministry condemned what it described as an Israeli drone strike on a civilian vehicle in southern Syria, calling it a "blatant" violation of its sovereignty. Israel stated it targeted a "terrorist" posing an immediate threat.

The incident occurred on Saturday near Beit Jinn village, west of the capital Damascus. Syrian state television reported that the drone struck a civilian car, resulting in civilian injuries.

The Israeli military confirmed an operation in southern Syria, aiming at an individual they identified as a terrorist whose activities presented a direct danger to Israeli soldiers. The statement did not specify the method of engagement.

This event follows heightened tensions between Israel and Syria earlier in the week, after Israel conducted airstrikes on a northwest Syrian airbase. A U.S. special envoy described that escalation as "unnecessary."

Syria's Foreign Ministry characterized the latest strike as part of a recurring pattern of Israeli attacks on Syrian territory and reiterated its condemnation of these actions, holding Israel responsible for any repercussions.
