Arsenal are reportedly tracking Como's exciting attacker Nico Paz, a player Cesc Fabregas has compared to Lionel Messi, but a significant hurdle involving Real Madrid stands in their way.
The 22-year-old Argentine international has become a standout performer in Serie A under Fabregas's guidance, sparking interest from top European clubs. Arsenal are among those keen, but Real Madrid holds a trump card.
Fabregas himself drew parallels between Paz and Messi, noting the similar way opposition players target him. Arsenal are said to be impressed with Paz's potential and are considering him for future squad strengthening, despite Como making his move permanent for around €60 million this summer.
However, Real Madrid, where Paz came through their academy, secured their position by retaining a unilateral €80 million buy-back option, valid until summer 2027. This clause presents a major challenge for Arsenal, as Madrid could potentially activate it and bring the player back to the Bernabeu, even if Arsenal strike a deal with Como.
Paz recently expressed his preference for consistent game time in Italy this season over immediate competition with Real Madrid's established stars. His versatility, comfort in tight spaces, and ability to operate as a No. 10, central midfielder, or in wider attacking roles would appeal to Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, adding another creative option to their squad.
The primary obstacle remains Real Madrid's €80 million buy-back clause, which effectively grants them first refusal. This means Arsenal's pursuit could be thwarted if Madrid decides to re-sign Paz. While monitoring him is sensible, Arsenal will need to gauge Madrid's intentions before committing significant resources.
