Liverpool's pursuit of Bournemouth winger Rayan faces a hefty reality check, as the club has been explicitly told there will be no special treatment or discounts, even with manager Andoni Iraola's familiarity with the Brazilian talent.
The Reds have been monitoring the 20-year-old Brazilian for some time, and Iraola, who previously worked with Rayan on the south coast, knows him well. However, Bournemouth is firmly protecting their valuable asset, who has a substantial release clause set to activate in 2027.
According to ESPN Brazil journalist Bruno Andrade, while Liverpool's interest is confirmed, they have yet to make an official move. Several other major European clubs are also reportedly positioning themselves to potentially sign Rayan before the clause becomes active.
Andrade emphasized the clear message from Bournemouth: "Whoever wants to sign Rayan in January... has to pay the value of the clause. There won't be a discount, there won't be a lower payment. It's either that or the player stays." This clause is reportedly around £130 million, a sum that would shatter Liverpool's transfer record.
Bournemouth holds a strong negotiating position, with Rayan contracted until 2031. He joined from Vasco da Gama for a deal potentially worth around €35 million, showcasing a dramatic rise in value in under a year. While Iraola's connection might offer Liverpool more confidence in the player's fit, it won't influence the price.
Liverpool must now weigh whether Rayan is worth another record-breaking investment. Paying the full release clause would make him one of the most expensive players in Premier League history, and the club faces a straightforward decision: commit to the massive fee or seek alternative targets.
