After years battling relentless Texas mosquitoes, a new system from Thermacell has proven to be the game-changer, offering a semi-permanent solution that drastically improves outdoor living.
Four years ago, returning to Texas meant a swift and brutal reunion with mosquitoes that seemed larger and more aggressive than ever. Within days, my skin was covered in bites. My initial attempts at control involved a costly professional service that sprayed pesticide every three weeks. While effective for a couple of days, the reprieve was short-lived, and the bloodthirsty pests always returned.
It took two years to discover a better solution: Thermacell's LIV Smart Mosquito Repellent System. Unlike smaller personal devices, LIV is designed for broader protection, installed around the perimeter of the area you want to keep mosquito-free. You activate it when needed and turn it off when you’re indoors, creating a customizable "vaporous fence."
Now, Thermacell has rolled out an upgraded version, LIV 2.0, with most components updated since my initial review. The core concept remains the same: Wi-Fi-connected control hubs power a daisy-chain of pesticide-emitting repellers. These repellers, placed up to 20 feet apart, contain vials of metofluthrin, a compound mosquitoes actively avoid, though it doesn't typically kill them.
With LIV 2.0, I've further enhanced coverage around my pool area by adding an extra repeller to eliminate any potential entry points for the bugs. The system’s ease of use and sustained effectiveness mark a significant upgrade in the fight against annoying and persistent mosquitoes.
