Nothing just dropped its latest audio gear, the Headphone (1) Pro, boasting a serious upgrade in sound quality aimed at both audiophiles and music creators. Unveiled at a New York City event, these new cans build on the design of last summer's debut over-ear model but pack a significant audio punch.
The major leap comes from a triple-driver setup in each ear cup, a departure from the single driver found in most headphones. This means dedicated drivers for bass, midrange, and treble frequencies, promising clearer, more detailed sound without the muddiness that can come from a single driver handling everything. Nothing has incorporated a 40mm dynamic driver for lows, a precision dynamic driver for vocals and instruments (designed to capture subtle "S" and "T" sounds), and a unique xMEMS driver for crisp highs, utilizing a silicon diaphragm for sharper transients like cymbal crashes.
Adding a cool aesthetic touch, Nothing has fitted the headphones with 9H Panda glass panels on the sides, offering a peek at the triple-driver architecture within. The rest of the build features aluminum with titanium accents. While the glass might raise durability concerns, Nothing assures it's shatter- and scratch-resistant, having survived rigorous drop tests. Plus, the design allows for easier repairs, with a protective film ensuring functionality even if the glass cracks.
While slightly lighter than their predecessor, the Headphone (1) Pro feature a wider headband and plusher padding. However, battery life sees a slight dip to 68 hours with ANC off, compared to the previous 80 hours. They also come with an IP52 rating for dust and water resistance, so keeping them dry is a good idea.
Priced at $399, a $100 increase from the standard model, Nothing is positioning the Headphone (1) Pro as a pro-level tool. A key feature is a dedicated flat EQ mode, activated by a physical button, which Nothing collaborated with Metropolis Studio to develop for professional mixing. They've also included a "Studio B" Dynamic Spatial Audio mode simulating the studio's environment, alongside other custom EQ profiles. For connectivity, you have options including a 3.5mm jack, hi-res wireless, and USB-C.
Nothing claims these headphones offer their best active noise cancellation yet, powered by 10 microphones to silence the outside world. While they don't fold, a protective carry case is included. The Headphone (1) Pro are set to launch on September 29th, available through Nothing's online store, Amazon, and Best Buy.
