Field executions, secret prisons and terrorist crimes in Yemen's Taiz (report)

Human rights reports revealed that the Brotherhood organization in Taiz (Islah Party) committed nearly 3000 thousand heinous terrorist crimes against the people of Taiz governorate during the last period.

Haq Organization for the Defense of Rights and Freedoms said that it had monitored 2,700 victims of the citizens of Taiz governorate in central Yemen, who were subjected to human rights violations between arrest, enforced disappearance and torture, and that 120 were subjected to gruesome field executions during the past year.

In its field report, which monitored human rights violations against citizens in the Yemeni governorate of Taiz between May 2015-August 2017, the organization indicated that most of the violations were responsible for them, distributed between the Islah Party, the Islamic State (ISIS), Hasm Brigades, and the protectors of faith.

The report, issued by the organization in early 2020, which we obtained a copy of, was concerned with monitoring violations by armed groups affiliated with legitimacy in the governorate of Taiz, and tracking them for at least two years, according to field monitoring, interviews and testimonies from the victims or their relatives.

The report indicated that about 21 civil and governmental buildings were turned by the Islah party militia and some other organizations into secret prisons and detention centers in which their opponents are held in extra-legal procedures.

The organization's report listed, with pictures and names, the secret prisons referred to as follows:

The building of the Central Organization for Control and Accountability - a detention and practice of torture center - the Islah Party.

The National Institute of Administrative Sciences - Detention and Torture Center - Islah Party.

Yemen Women's Union Building - Detention Center - Islah Party.

The Saudi building (private property), a detention center + housing for armed elements - ISIS.

The Chamber of Commerce building - a Sharia court for extremist organizations - the Islamic State (ISIS) and the Islah party militia.

Al-Saeed Institution for Cultural Sciences building (private property), detention center + housing for armed elements - Hasm Brigades [hard-line Salafist].

Taiz Governorate Building - Islah Party Fighters Accommodation - Detention Center - Islah Party.

Taiz Tourist Club Building - Detention Center - Military Barracks - Commander of the 22nd Mika Brigade (Sadiq Sarhan).

Al-Saqr Sports Club building - detention center + housing for armed elements - Hasm Brigades.

The vocational institute building - a military barracks - the commander of the 22nd Mika Brigade (Sadiq Sarhan).

The report added that a number of government schools were seized, and students were deprived of education for two consecutive years, as they were transformed into prisons, military barracks, or training centers for fighters.

It pointed out that 9,066 male and female students from these schools were deprived of the right to education.
