Pro-government Al Amaliqa forces, known as the Giant Brigades, said their demining teams cleared and destroyed thousands of mines laid by the Iran-backed Houthi militia in the provinces of Shabwa and Marib.

In a statement, Al Amaliqa Media Center said Monday as many as 7700 landmines and explosive devices had been removed and destroyed in Hareeb district, south of Marib, and Bayhan district, west of Shabwa province, which have lately been liberated from the Houthi militia.

Last Thursday, the Media Center of Al Amaliqa, published a video showing large quantities of mines and explosive devices the Houthis had planted in Hareeb district, before being forces to withdraw from the district.

According to Al Amaliqa, the removed mines were mainly planted in roads and farming lands.

The Houthis are reported to have planted over a million mines in large swaths of the country. Such mines, according to a report by Human Rights Watch, have killed about 9000 unsuspecting civilians since the outbreak of the war in March 2015.
