The Yemeni Mayon Human Rights Organization condemned the Iran-backed Houthis setting up a new repressive mechanism that violates Yemeni women's right to movement.
The Yemeni NOG said in a statement Sunday that it had obtained official documents that the Houthis requested their security services to ban the movement of women and their departure to any other areas except with the presence of a guardian (mahram) or obtaining a higher security approval that allows her to move.
It warned that obliging Yemeni women to have a guardian (mahram) or to obtain preliminary approval notes from the security authorities in order to be able to move is a flagrant violation of human and women's rights and the values and customs of Yemeni society.
"We share concerns with human rights organizations and activists about the seriousness of these decisions and violations against women and their rights". Mayon said.
