WFP reduces Yemen's food aid, Minister of Planning accused of corruption

An official document showed that the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) has reduced the number of food aid to Yemen in an unannounced way, noting that the program continues to provide 13 million people with food and in-kind aid, with a noticeable decrease in the number of beneficiaries compared to last year.

This came in a letter addressed to the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, which did not give the matter any attention, and dealt with it with negligence and abject failure.

Despite the WFP's announcement, the Executive Unit for the IDP Camp Management in Yemen's Ma'rib constantly confirms that the Program is refraining from disbursing food dues to hundreds of families in the governorate, which witnessed the largest wave of displacement to it from across the country.

Many families in various Yemeni governorates complain about the lack of food aid from the WFP. The Ministry of Planning moving no a finger, which confirms that there is a corruption process linked between the ministry and the program, according to observers.

Dr. Abdul-Qader Al-Kharraz, the executor of the “We will not be silent, where is the money” campaign, accused the Minister of Planning, Waed Batheeb, and his brother, of covering up the corruption of the World Food Program, in exchange for the commission he receives with his brother and the Minister of Water and Environment, Tawfiq Al-Sharjabi.

Al-Kharaz criticized the silence of the Minister for his ministry's failure to hold the WFP accountable for the reasons for reducing the number of beneficiaries.
Al-Kharaz called for the formation of community committees to ascertain what is or will be done, referring to the mutual corruption operations between the ministry and the program, in light of the increasing complaints that the WFP has not fulfilled its obligations in distributing aid to the deserving Yemeni people.
