Yemen: Masam removes 400,000 Houthi landmines and unexploded ordnance

400,000 landmines and unexploded ordnance have been removed by Masam over five years of continuous humanitarian perseverance in mine action. It is a very honorable and promising figure and an unprecedented result that we are proud of as a humanitarian project, not only on the Yemeni level, but also on the global one, especially  if we take into consideration  the conditions of demining and the unfamiliar nature of mines that this brotherly country is going through. All thanks, appreciation, gratitude and blessings to the Kingdom of Goodness; the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the sponsor of humanitarian work in Yemen as well as in separate parts of the world.

With these words, managing director of Masam Project, Mr. Ousama Algosaibi, announced the great achievements of this project, using the language of figures that prove to the whole world the success of this humanitarian work in Yemen under the auspices and support of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and in light of King Salman Center's keenness on guaranteeing the right to a safe life from mines in Yemen.

There is no doubt that Masam, thanks to its expertise, energies, unique equipment, firm will, and deep belief in its humanitarian mission in Yemen, has accomplished, within 5 years of sacrifices and achievements on the ground, unprecedented results in the marathon of humanitarian work globally.  It contributed to restoring life to normal in several Yemeni regions, which today enjoy a safe life away from the threats of mines, and it also saved the lives of many innocent people. Such a great project allowed dreams to be realized and opened the door before hope for a better future in this country, which suffered from an unprecedented epidemic of mines in quantity and quality. Needless to say that as a result of these mines, several victims fell and many innocent people turned into people with special needs after their limbs had been amputated.

After five years of determination, firmness, and unlimited sacrifice in order to enable Yemen restore its security against mines, and after presenting martyrs from its best members and experts, the great project of Masam succeeded to remove 400,000 landmines and unexploded ordnance, going on its humanitarian struggle until Yemen returns completely free of explosive devices, and  until life in this country breathes security against explosives with a deep breath and complete comfort.

In this context, Mr. Ousama Algosaibi said: “Masam is a project of life, a project of struggle, aiming at laying the foundations of a safe life from mines in Yemen. Such a project harnesses its field, technical and media energies for this noble goal, and will spare no effort for that at all. The Kingdom of Goodness is on its covenant with this regard, and we are proceeding with the approach of this covenant with all loyalty and dedication."

Algosaibi also added, "The figure "400,000" is the title of our success, and it is an incentive for us to move forward in our greatest achievements, our ultimate goal, and our pursued promise; "A Yemen without mines".  Masam is a project of action, giving and perseverance, its energies are unique and abound with love for humanitarian work, and every success we achieve today pushes us towards raising the ceiling of our aspirations and intensifying our efforts to always be proactive towards quality, dedication and brilliance in the field of humanitarian work."

Algosaibi stated that the project has so far managed to clear more than 46 million square meters of Yemeni lands that were rigged with ammunition, mines and explosive devices.
