British maritime security firm Ambrey said on Tuesday that it was aware of multiple explosions in the vicinity of Yemen’s Zuqar Island, without providing further details.

Attacks on ships in the Red Sea have been on the rise since the start of the Israel-Hamas war, with most attacks being claimed by Yemen’s Houthi militia.

The Houthis, who control the country’s capital and most populous areas, have attacked international shipping in the Red Sea since November in what they say is solidarity with Palestinians, drawing US and British retaliatory strikes since last month.

On Tuesday, Houthi militants in Yemen claimed responsibility for six assaults on ships using drones and missiles over the past 72 hours in the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea. However, Maersk, a Danish company mentioned in the attacks, refuted any reports of its vessel being targeted.

“We can confirm that no such incident was reported by the vessel, which is currently safely continuing her normal journey far from the mentioned location,” the company said in a statement.
