About 795 cases of corruption and organized crime reported in Houthi-controlled areas during the year


The Platform for Tracking Organized Crime and Money Laundering in Yemen (P.T.O.C) has found out that the number of new cases of embezzlement of public funds and corruption registered in Houthi-controlled areas in the past 12 months reached 795 cases.

 

This comes amid widespread corruption, embezzlement of public funds, bribery, and nepotism in various ministries, institutions, and sectors, resulting in damage to the national economy and the squandering of tens of billions of riyals and millions of dollars in an organized crime of looting public and private funds for the benefit of the Houthi leaders.



 



The (P.T.O.C) platform obtained details of those cases distributed in the capital Sanaa with 526 cases, and in the governorates of Dhamar (63), Hodeidah (50), Al-Mahweet (144), while in Taiz (12 cases).



 



According to documents obtained by (P.T.O.C), the number of defendants in embezzlement of public funds and corruption cases registered during a full year reached 1102 defendants.



 



The financial value of these cases was estimated at around YR37.5 billion. During the same period, the number of corruption complaints that were turned into "confirmed cases" reached 362 complaints, while 177 complaints are still "under investigation and follow-up". The (P.T.O.C) has found.



 



The platform stated in its statement that the number of cases of embezzlement of public funds and corruption in areas controlled by the Houthis reached 2082 cases during the same period.
