European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde has described the reported ceasefire agreement with Iran as "good news," emphasizing its potential to facilitate the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
Lagarde's remarks, made to France Culture radio on Monday, indicated a cautiously optimistic outlook. "If this news is confirmed by developments in the coming days and the signing of a memorandum of understanding... it is good news. We can only welcome it," she stated.
However, the ECB President also noted that the situation remains complex. "We have not yet finished the story," Lagarde cautioned, adding that "the whole question of uranium enrichment remains to be debated, agreed and concluded in the form of an agreement."
The preliminary pact, announced by U.S. and Iranian officials, aims to end hostilities and reopen the critical Strait of Hormuz. While the agreement saw oil prices decline, the future of Tehran's nuclear program is slated for further diplomatic discussions.
