The Yemeni government has called on the UN Security Council to adopt a more decisive stance against Iranian interference in Yemen and to update sanctions to encompass all individuals and entities involved in disruptive activities, obstructing the political process, and undermining state institutions.
In a statement delivered by Yemen's Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Abdullah Al-Saadi, before the Security Council, the government affirmed its readiness to cooperate fully with the United Nations and the sanctions committee to hold accountable all those who impede the implementation of international agreements and resolutions or undermine state institutions.
The government reiterated its appeal to dry up the sources of funding and armament for the Houthi militia, considering this the most direct path to achieving lasting peace in Yemen and the region. It emphasized that continued Iranian interventions exacerbate the crisis and threaten regional and international security.
The statement highlighted that the Houthi militia has become a military arm linked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, utilizing Yemeni territory to threaten international navigation and regional security, urging the international community to confront these challenges firmly.
Furthermore, the government requested the Security Council to maintain pressure for the release of UN and international organization personnel and those detained in Houthi prisons, reaffirming its commitment to peace and its support for UN efforts aimed at ending the war in accordance with agreed-upon references, most notably Security Council Resolution 2216.
The government clarified that it has maintained the highest degree of self-restraint throughout the past phase, granting numerous opportunities to address internal challenges through dialogue, turn a new page, and focus on the battle to restore state institutions and build a future that all Yemenis deserve. Yemen is not asking the international community to fight its battle on its behalf, but rather seeks clear support for its people's aspirations for security, stability, peace, and development, the restoration of its national institutions, and its right to exercise authority over its entire territory, and to end all manifestations of weapons outside the state.
