Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly targeting Marseille's Mason Greenwood for a summer transfer, with the French club valuing the forward at a hefty €80 million.
According to L'Equipe, both Premier League clubs are keen on securing Greenwood's services. The 24-year-old has a prior connection with Roberto De Zerbi, who recently took the helm at Marseille, and could be a significant addition for either North London side.
However, a potential move for Greenwood to Tottenham could be met with significant fan backlash. Tottenham supporters' groups previously criticized De Zerbi for his public support of Greenwood, who faced serious charges including attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior, and assault during his time at Manchester United. While these charges were later dropped, the controversy lingers.
Greenwood has been in impressive form for Marseille, contributing 26 goals and 11 assists last season. His versatility, capable of playing on the wing or centrally, could address Tottenham's goal-scoring issues. Arsenal also sees him as a valuable option to boost their attacking firepower, as he can operate effectively in various forward positions.
Marseille is reportedly under pressure to sell players to meet Financial Fair Play regulations, making Greenwood their most valuable asset available for a premium price. It remains to be seen if either Arsenal or Tottenham will make a formal offer to secure the England international.
