US Sanctions Target Global Network Aiding Iran's Weapon Procurement

The United States imposed sanctions on Wednesday against individuals and entities alleged to be part of an international network facilitating Iran's weapon procurement.

The U.S. Treasury Department stated that the sanctions target Iranian and Russian nationals, along with entities based in Iran, Russia, and Nigeria. This action occurs amid escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran, including recent confrontations concerning the Strait of Hormuz, as the Trump administration intensifies its pressure campaign against Iran through a series of sanctions.

According to the Treasury statement, the targeted individuals and entities "exemplify Iran's use of foreign aviation and transport firms, financial conduits, and travel coordinators to obscure the IRGC's role in illicit procurement and to move material and personnel globally."

These latest measures supplement previous U.S. actions initiated in May, which targeted individuals and companies, including several in China and Hong Kong, accused of supporting Iran's weapons sector. In June, the U.S. had already imposed sanctions on 11 individuals and entities for their alleged involvement in aiding the weapons procurement efforts of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Iranian military.
