The U.S. military announced late Thursday that it had concluded its latest series of strikes against Iran, a campaign directed by President Donald Trump that marks the sixth consecutive night of American military actions.
According to a statement from the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), American forces utilized fighter jets, aerial drones, and warships to deploy precision munitions against numerous Iranian military objectives. These targets included coastal surveillance and air defense installations, military logistics infrastructure, and maritime assets.
On Thursday evening, U.S. projectiles reportedly struck Qeshm Island and areas near Bandar Abbas. Both locations are situated along the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime chokepoint housing Iran's largest port and significant facilities for its navy and Revolutionary Guards.
Iranian news agencies also reported U.S. strikes late Thursday on three bridges and the train station in the coastal city of Bandar Khamir, as well as a U.S. missile attack on Iranshahr Airport in southeastern Iran. These reports could not be immediately independently verified by Reuters.
The U.S. military actions follow Iran's launch of missiles and drones targeting U.S. military bases in neighboring countries. Notably, Iran stated that a recently expanded air base in Jordan, used in a U.S. attack on an Iranian children's cancer hospital on Wednesday night, was among the targets.
President Trump has previously reiterated threats to target Iranian energy infrastructure and has also indicated potential strikes on bridges in the coming week. International law experts have previously stated that attacks on sites essential for civilian populations, such as bridges, could constitute war crimes under the 1949 Geneva Conventions.
