The United Arab Emirates has issued a strong warning against further Iranian escalation, vowing zero tolerance in defending its sovereignty after a drone attack targeted its territory. The incident, which occurred over territorial waters, has heightened regional tensions and prompted a firm response from Abu Dhabi.
The UAE condemned the Iranian drone attack as a dangerous escalation and a flagrant violation of its sovereignty, security, and stability. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that such attacks represent an unacceptable transgression and a direct threat to the nation's security and territorial integrity, contravening international law and the UN Charter. In a clear deterrent message, the UAE asserted its right to respond to aggressions to protect its territory, citizens, residents, and visitors.
The Ministry of Defense confirmed that air defense systems intercepted the drone originating from Iran over UAE territorial waters. It emphasized that the armed forces are on high alert to counter threats and that air defense systems maintain continuous surveillance. The ministry also refuted media reports of missile strikes on Al Minhad Air Base, urging the public to rely on official sources for accurate information.
The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) strongly condemned the Iranian attack, expressing full solidarity with the UAE and rejecting any aggression targeting the sovereignty, security, and stability of its member states. GCC Secretary-General Jassem Mohamed Albudaiwi described the Iranian actions as a dangerous escalation and a violation of international law, stressing that the security of the GCC is indivisible and that member states will take necessary measures to protect their security and interests.
In parallel with its defensive stance, the UAE has proposed a political pathway to de-escalate tensions. Anwar Gargash, Diplomatic Advisor to the UAE President, stated that the current state of "no war, no peace" is unsustainable and that policies targeting Gulf states have proven ineffective. He called for realistic and sustainable political and economic solutions that move beyond escalation and restore normal navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
The UAE's dual approach aims to deter aggression while keeping the door open for a political settlement. Abu Dhabi maintains its right to self-defense but is keen to pursue diplomatic solutions that lead to clear and sustainable arrangements ensuring regional security and freedom of navigation.
