The U.S. military confirmed it conducted strikes on Iranian military targets for the twelfth consecutive night, acting under the direction of President Donald Trump.
U.S. Central Command stated that the targets included maritime capabilities, missile and drone storage facilities, coastal surveillance sites, and air defense assets. These strikes, which lasted five hours, are part of a broader campaign that began on February 28 with joint U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran. Iran subsequently retaliated with strikes on Israel and Gulf states hosting U.S. bases.
The conflict has resulted in thousands of deaths and displaced millions, with U.S. troop fatalities rising to 18 in recent days. President Trump has vowed to retaliate against Iran by destroying specific infrastructure, such as bridges or power plants, for any attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz. He has previously threatened to target energy plants and bridges.
In response to these threats, Iran's joint military command has warned that it would target regional oil, gas, electricity, and economic facilities if U.S. threats are carried out, according to state media. International law experts have previously noted that attacks on sites essential for civilians, as prohibited by the 1949 Geneva Conventions, could constitute war crimes. President Trump's earlier threat to destroy Iran's entire civilization also drew widespread condemnation.
