Former Leeds United winger Jack Harrison has sparked chatter by declaring his transfer to Major League Soccer's New England Revolution as the "best signing" of his career, a comment many are interpreting as a jab at his old club.
Harrison, officially unveiled by the MLS side this week, couldn't contain his excitement about his new chapter. He expressed immense delight with the reception he received in Massachusetts, which he seemingly contrasted with his experiences at Leeds.
“The fans were incredible. I’ve never been recognised on the field like that before,” Harrison told the New England Revolution's official website. “I said to my agent the other day that this has been the best signing that I’ve done in my career so far.”
This remark has certainly ruffled feathers back in West Yorkshire. Harrison's relationship with Leeds supporters soured significantly after the club's relegation from the Premier League in 2023. Instead of staying to help the team push for promotion in the Championship, he opted for loan moves to Everton and later Fiorentina, a decision that many fans viewed as a lack of loyalty.
Despite the somewhat bitter end, Harrison had a significant five-year tenure at Leeds. He was a key player under Marcelo Bielsa, helping the club win the Championship title in 2019-20 and securing their Premier League status on the final day of the 2021-22 season with a dramatic goal against Brentford. Across 219 appearances, he netted 34 goals and provided 32 assists.
However, Harrison's latest comments suggest he's keen to put the tumultuous period at Elland Road firmly in the rearview mirror as he embarks on his MLS adventure.
