Man Utd Eyes PSG Starlet Mbaye, Liverpool Backs Off

Manchester United is making a serious play for Paris Saint-Germain's promising 18-year-old winger, Ibrahim Mbaye, aiming to bolster their attacking options before the transfer window slams shut. The club sees Mbaye as a versatile talent capable of playing multiple attacking roles, similar to Bryan Mbeumo, and a player with significant long-term potential.

United has reportedly initiated direct talks with Mbaye's representatives to gauge his interest in a move to Old Trafford and discuss potential wage expectations. Mbaye is keen on continuing his Champions League journey, a competition United is participating in this season. He has already made a mark at PSG, becoming their youngest-ever starter at just 16 and accumulating 41 senior appearances. Notably, Mbaye showcased his abilities by scoring against Manchester United in a recent pre-season friendly.

Adding to United's advantage, rivals Liverpool appear to have cooled their interest in Mbaye. Reports suggest Liverpool has shifted focus, potentially due to a hefty valuation of Mbaye, estimated to be between €40m and €50m, and their concurrent pursuit of Bradley Barcola.

Mbaye could be an ideal fit for United's strategy. With players like Amad and Mbeumo already in the squad, Mbaye wouldn't face immediate pressure to be a star. Instead, United could nurture his development, benefiting from his pace, direct style, and ability to operate on either wing. PSG's own attacking depth, featuring stars like Ousmane Dembélé and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, might also make regular first-team action difficult for Mbaye in Paris.

While the significant transfer fee for an 18-year-old represents a gamble and United has other areas needing reinforcement, Liverpool's withdrawal from the race and Mbaye's openness to a Premier League move provide genuine encouragement for Manchester United's pursuit.
