Sweden boss Graham Potter has delivered an exciting update on Dejan Kulusevski, suggesting the Tottenham forward is on the cusp of his long-awaited comeback after more than 15 months sidelined with knee cartilage surgery.
Both Tottenham and the Swedish national team are gearing up for Kulusevski's return to match fitness. Potter, the Swedish national team head coach, shared his deep admiration for the winger's resilience during a challenging rehabilitation period.
Potter confirmed that Kulusevski is nearing competitive action and could feature in Sweden's upcoming autumn international matches. Speaking to SVT, he stated, "He is actually very close. I am so impressed with how he has handled his injury. We have to be careful with him. I hope he comes with us (September/October), but we have to talk to Dejan and Tottenham first."
The coach emphasized Kulusevski's world-class status and significant contribution to the Swedish squad, noting his character and technical skill. While the national team is eager to have him back, any decision will be made collaboratively with Spurs' medical staff to ensure a smooth reintegration.
Kulusevski recently offered a significant boost to Tottenham by returning to full team training after nearly 500 days out. He was close to a competitive return, being named in the squad for the Premier League match against Nottingham Forest. However, a minor issue during preparations led Spurs to exercise caution and leave him out of that fixture as a preventative measure, given the history of his knee injury.
Despite that brief setback, Kulusevski's recovery is reportedly back on track. With Potter's confirmation that the Swedish star is "very close," Tottenham fans may soon see one of their key attacking players back on the field.
