President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that he would consider a request from relatives of victims of the September 11 attacks to declassify additional records concerning the events and potential links to Saudi Arabia.
Trump made the remarks to reporters in Ireland before boarding a flight back to the United States. The families of those who perished in the 9/11 attacks have been advocating for the release of further documentation related to the incident.
Lawmakers from New York, representing both major political parties, have also urged the Trump administration to disclose specific phone records. U.S. Representative Nicole Malliotakis, a Republican from New York, expressed optimism earlier this month, telling ABC News that "this is probably one of the better shots that we have at getting this information out there." She added, "And I think that hopefully we'll see this type of transparency coming from this administration."
In related developments, New York City Mayor Eric Adams recently made approximately 170,000 pages of records publicly available. These documents pertain to air quality, health concerns, and the city's response to the attacks.
