San Diego police are investigating the apparent homicide of a couple and their 13-year-old daughter, who were discovered deceased inside their residence earlier this week with apparent gunshot wounds.
Authorities responded to a 911 call on Wednesday morning from a neighbor reporting unresponsive individuals at a home on Boulder Lake Avenue. Upon arrival, officers confirmed the deaths of the couple. The names of the deceased couple were later released as David Voight, 56, and Amy Voight, 54. Their daughter was also found deceased within the residence.
Preliminary findings at the scene suggest that all three victims sustained fatal gunshot wounds. Investigators have recovered a firearm from the property. The San Diego Police Department's homicide unit is leading the investigation, with the San Diego County Medical Examiner's office scheduled to conduct autopsies to establish the precise cause and manner of death for each individual.
According to interviews with the victims' family members, Amy Voight was a devoted parent and a highly intelligent individual who previously worked for the Naval Criminal Investigative Service. David Voight was identified as a decorated U.S. Navy warrant officer with extensive service, including deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan. His in-laws indicated that he had been struggling with worsening post-traumatic stress disorder.
