Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian delivered a resolute address at the United Nations General Assembly, asserting that his nation will defend itself with its "last breath" and will not abandon its civilian nuclear program, while simultaneously indicating a willingness for dialogue with the United States.
Speaking directly to President Donald Trump, who had previously characterized Iran as a primary sponsor of terrorism and threatened its annihilation, President Pezeshkian stated that Iran would not yield to intimidation. "Iran must be understood by Mr. Trump and those who seek to bully us that we are ready for dialogue, diplomacy and negotiations without accepting the language of force," he declared toward the conclusion of his speech.
President Pezeshkian's participation marked a significant diplomatic occasion, as Iran became the first nation at war with the United States, the host country of the UN headquarters, to have its head of government attend the General Assembly. He utilized this platform to articulate Iran's perspective on the ongoing conflict.
"We need power, because a people who doesn’t have power will be crushed in this war," Mr. Pezeshkian stated. "We will not ask permission from anyone for defending our country."
During his address, Mr. Pezeshkian presented photographs depicting casualties, including Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was reportedly killed in an Israeli strike on the first day of the war; elementary schoolchildren who died in Minab due to American airstrikes; and athletes and children who perished in a U.S. strike on a sports stadium.
