Firefighters successfully rescued a dog trapped inside a vehicle that plunged into the Pacific Ocean near Malibu on Saturday. Another dog and the driver had managed to exit the vehicle prior to the rescue.
The incident occurred along Highway 1 near Deer Creek when the vehicle veered off the road, impacting multiple rocks. While the driver and one dog were able to escape the wreckage, a second canine remained inside as waves washed over the submerged car.
Footage from the scene depicted rescue personnel working to free the trapped dog. Firefighters and California State Parks lifeguards accessed the vehicle, safely extricated the animal, and carried it to the roadway. According to a statement from the Ventura County Fire Department, neither dog appeared to sustain injuries.
One individual involved in the crash sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The rescue operation involved a coordinated effort by the Ventura County Fire Department, Federal Fire Ventura County, California State Parks lifeguards, Gold Coast Ambulance, and the California Highway Patrol.
The two dogs were reunited following the incident. While one dog appeared to have minor bleeding on its hind leg, both animals were reported to be safe.
