Trump Dismisses China and Russia Support for Iran

President Donald Trump has stated that he does not believe China and Russia are providing any support to Iran, asserting that both nations have too much to lose from such actions.

In remarks posted on his Truth Social platform, Trump addressed comments from critics suggesting that Beijing and Moscow were assisting Tehran. He indicated that if any such assistance were occurring, it would be at a minimal level, but he expressed a firm conviction that it was not happening at all. "They have too much to lose, and we would know about it, and know about it very fast," Trump wrote.

This statement follows earlier remarks made in July, when Trump expressed confidence that China and Russia would refrain from aiding Tehran in the ongoing conflict, warning of severe consequences should they become involved. The United States and Iran have been engaged in hostilities since February 28, following retaliatory strikes by both nations and subsequent attacks on Israel and Gulf states hosting U.S. bases, resulting in significant casualties and displacement.

Trump has previously characterized Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin as neutral parties in the Iran conflict. Both Russia and China maintain significant ties with Tehran. Russia has voiced concerns that the conflict could escalate into a nuclear arms race in the Middle East, while Beijing has condemned U.S. actions against Iran as a clear violation of its sovereignty.

Last month, during Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to Washington, Trump reportedly cautioned him against providing support to Iran, receiving assurances that China would not do so, according to the U.S. ambassador to China at the time. This warning came amid reports of Chinese entities supplying Iran with missile launchers and assisting in evading oil sanctions.
